During Thanksgiving week I always like to reflect on the things we should be thankful for. I woke up to 7 degrees today with a 15 MPH Wind. WOW! One of the best smells on the farm when it’s that cold outside is the smell of a waterer with open water in it. Yep I said smell because everything else is frozen. I am thankful for education. We have certainly learned about Winter through the school of hard knocks. But, with that knowledge we know what to do going forward. The morning cow check changed today to looking for snotty noses to now also looking for stiff legs and any cows that may have been laying down too long. Lastly, another precaution that is in full effect is bedding. Cattle need dry thick bedding to lay down on when it is this cold. Lastly, as the year is winding down us at BTTR have so many things to be thankful for, but the best is our health (despite setbacks) and the ability to continue to grow these two amazing breeds. Thank you God for all our blessings.
